Vehicles are often registered in your name, or within the name of an incorporated company. Once you register your vehicle, you're liable for it.

What you will need to register your vehicle in NSW?
Proof of Identity
A Photo Card or a driving or riding license in New South Wales that's current or expired in past 2 years.
There's also the need of documents that prove your identity that from what Transport Roads and Maritime Services call list 1 and list 2. Both lists can be accessed using the link we’ve provided below - http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/identity/index.html#List1
Identification options include a Birth certificate in Australia, an Australian passport, a Medicare card – the complete lists are supplied within the link above.
Your signature – witnessed by a family member or from a member of society
A statement is required to prove that the signature you've provided to Transport Roads and Maritime Services is yours.
The statement you provided must be signed by you and witnessed by your employer, a teacher, bank manager, a school principal, your parent or guardian.
You'll have to buy insurance for your Car – It is compulsory and non-negotiable
One needs CTP insurance (also known as ‘Green Slip’). This may protect you from any liability if you or the other person driving your car meets an accident that causes death or injury. The slip must cover you for at least 12 months.
The vehicle must pass the AUVIS check
AUVIS stands for Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station.
The most important part of the registration process, the vehicle you plan to buy is going to be examined and checked by an Inspector.
If the vehicle passes the test, You will be offered a signed, printed, Identity Safety from the Inspector
Check certificate (ISC). You'll need this certificate to mention that your vehicle has cleared its safety checks before Transport Roads and Maritime Services can register it for you.

What after having all the documents?
Go to your nearest motor registry and apply to register your Car. Staff will answer any questions you've got at this stage.
